Imperfect: Scene 10 – Followed

Imperfect Followed I woke up just after nine in the morning, feeling a little refreshed, but hungover from my extended stay with Special Branch. It was going to take some time to work out how to play this out, because although I wasn’t in a cell, there was no reason to believe that I was out scot free. As I lay pondering this I suddenly remembered that it was Sunday. I jumped out of bed and made for the shower room, I needed Huw to be looking his best for his habitual trip to Church. I had a quick shower, shave and briefly polished a pair of brogues. Then I dressed in Huw’s finest tweed suit, and a freshly ironed shirt from the wardrobe. I always took these to a cleaner round the corner so there was a fresh supply.…

Imperfect: Scene 09 – Free

Imperfect Free I had spent over five hours in the police station and still hadn’t been arrested. It was quite late and I wanted to go to sleep, so I rested my head on my arms on the desk in the interview room and nodded off. Not the best plan for staying alert under interrogation, but better than staying awake for days, and also in character for Huw. As I was dozing blue pinstripe reappeared, with Fletcher just behind him. I woke with a start and then remembered where I was. Blue pinstripe looked uncomfortable, which was odd. He sat down opposite me and Fletcher remained standing at the open doorway. “Mr Powell, I’m Inspector Smeeton. I’m sorry we’ve kept you this long, it has taken some time to check your credentials.” “Inspector, I’m always happy to help the guardians…

Imperfect – Scene 05 – Questions

Imperfect Questions I stuck to the script when they interrogated me, and it seemed to be working. However they weren’t just going to let me go, they needed to verify it. My legend was quite detailed, but then I’d had three years to put it into place, and I’d also invested several hours a week during term time in putting it into practice, not to mention the reading time and writing the essays to maintain it. I had always felt that it would be worth it someday, and now that was looking like the proverbial rainy day that I had been saving it all up for. DC Fletcher came back into the room, she’d been away for three hours and 17 minutes. Having the terminal let me keep track of time, even if it couldn’t make it to the outside…

Character Profile – Charlie Semaj

I thought people might be interested in some of the character notes I made when writing the Exodus series. Not all of these are completely publishable, as they have spoilers for unpublished episodes, but I'll post up what is visible over the next few days. Here is Charlie Semaj, the first character we meet. Charlie Semaj Charlie Semaj is one of the early children that were genetically modified by Hephaestus Genetics. He was born to a surrogate mother in Cambridge in 2025 and grew up in the children’s home there, leaving it to attend University College London in 2043 where he studied Genetics for a year. When the scandal broke and Hephaestus went bust Charlie lost the funding for his univeristy place and had to drop out having only completed his first year. (more…)
