Imperfect (Exodus #2) Serialised

Following on from having posted Perfects in each of the five chapters I have decided to post Imperfect as well. However I intend to post it in smaller pieces and more frequently. Every other day for the next couple of weeks there will be one of the scenes from Imperfect posted here. Synopsis of Imperfect (Exodus #2) Following on from where Perfects left off, with Charlie arrested by the police and the fate of the others in his cell unknown. Pandora sets off to find where she was born in the hope of finding her mother, however Rosie catches her leaving the house and together they discover what has happened to the others and set off on a daring plan to rescue them. Pandora steps irrevocably onto the wrong side of the law, kidnapping national police officers and learning to…

Company Training by Gen. Haking

When in Southport last week I found an antiquarian bookshop in a very small gap between two other shops. It was very much like the fabled 'magic' shops that when you go back to it isn't there. (Although I hope it is if I get a chance to go back, it had a fantastic collection of books, archaeological artefacts and sea shells!) I bought three books from there, but the one that intrigued me most was 'Company Training' by Brig-Gen R. C. B. Haking, , which looked like it had spent some considerable time in the pocket of someone engaged in using it (complete with underlined passages in pencil in places). I'm a sucker for infantry training manuals and this one was pretty cheap because of the battered nature of the cover (although internally it was fine, personally I view the…

First Assignment Submitted!

After a couple of sweaty days (mostly from the gout and related medication rather than the assignment it has to be said) I finished off my first (of 6) Tutor Marked Assignments (TMA) for the B310 Making Sense of Strategy course I'm doing with the Open University. Next assignment is due in four weeks, so I'd better get started on it right away. Well perhaps tomorrow.  next tonight is to get some sleep. Making Sense of Strategy (Open University B301)

I've just started an Open University course (B301) titled "Making Sense of Strategy" in an attempt to show that I understand the theory as well as having practical experience of developing Strategy. The latter is a matter of record (on my CV at any rate). Mostly I've done it using central government's policy perspective, which isn't terribly good at acknowledging various academic theories. I've also got a strong pragmatic streak, so I've never really held much stock by other people's formal methods. Nevertheless Making Sense of Strategy will marry up my practice with the theory. Making Sense of Strategy What my experience does is make me highly sceptical of the various models being held up. That is probably a good thing. Making Sense of Strategy is mostly about making people think for themself. While still showing that we understand the competing theories. I've been looking at…

Choi Kwang Do

I've just done my second introductory session of Choi Kwang Do at the Ellis Academy of CKD in Redhill. I'm looking forward to lots more sessions and getting fit again. Image via Wikipedia Although I can tell that I've done more exercise in the last two days than in a long time I don't feel wiped out or punished. The form of exercise is pretty natural and follows the way we move anyway, so lots of sweat, a feeling of burn during exercise, but not torture. An ideal way for the office bound fatboy to get back into shape! Another thing that makes it attractive are the people at EACKD. They are very friendly, keen to show and explain and they have a sense of humour which makes it fun to train rather than seriously competitive (although they do all…
